A new hydraulic port finishing kit has been launched by Allied Maxcut, which enables fully finished and threaded hydraulic ports to be produced in just two steps by combining a standard port contour cutter and dedicated carbide thread mill in a single kit.
Each 'AccuPort 2-step port finishing kit' provides everything required for the rapid and accurate production of standard threaded hydraulic ports, by incorporating an AccuPort 432® port cutter with a dedicated 856™ thread mill and all the necessary replaceable inserts.
In use, the purpose designed AccuPort contour cutter drills, forms and precision finishes the hydraulic port in one pass, replacing three separate cutting operations in a single tool to deliver outstanding improvements in productivity, accuracy and repeatability.
Following this operation, the high performance AMEC 856™ carbide thread mill, cuts and finishes the thread to create a precision hydraulic port in a fraction of the time taken for traditional methods using separate drills, special forming tools, spot-facing tools and taps.
As the AccuPort profile cutter uses precision replaceable inserts for the drilling and port forming operations, together with through tool cooling, the system eliminates the need for tool re-grinding, which delivers absolute repeatability, an excellent surface finish and a reduced cost per port.
A wide choice of kits is available within the range for both metric and imperial port profiles which meet the relevant international standards including ISO 6149-1:1993; SAE J-1926-1 / ISO 11926-1; SAE J 514 and MS 16142.
