AMEC's ground breaking Revolution Drill and Core Drill ranges have been extended further with the launch of the latest increased diameter range to give even greater manufacturing and production flexibility, enabling diameters of up to 142.75mm to be drilled.
The Revolution Drill™ and Core Drill™ are adjustable indexable carbide drills, designed to produce high quality large diameter holes and deliver excellent productivity with a competitive cost per hole.
The Revolution Drills are designed to drill from solid with no pilot hole by using an 'over-centre' cutting geometry for the indexable carbide inserts and the single adjustable cartridge, which allows the diameter to be adjusted by up to 5.1mm, giving a hole size range of 47.63mm to 101.60mm.
Although similar to the Revolution Drill, the AMEC Core Drill is designed open out existing pre-drilled pilot holes or cast cores to a larger diameter in a single operation, quickly and efficiently. Utilising two or three adjustable cartridges, each holding up to thee indexable carbide inserts, the Core Drill has a wide scope of adjustment from 50.80mm to 63.50mm on the smallest drill in the range and 104.65mm to 142.75mm on the largest. Larger diameter specials are also available.
A key advantage of the Core Drill is that it enables large diameter holes to be produced on machines with lower power ratings, which can simplify production planning and give greater flexibility in terms of the plant used for specific drilling and manufacturing operations.
Also, the drill's high rigidity makes it perfectly suited to rough boring operations, where high material removal rates are required. When used to drill cores, the drill's design enables it to tolerate core shifts of up to 3.175mm.
As both drills use multiple indexable inserts, chip size is kept to a minimum for easy evacuation from the bore and enables maximum drill depths of 254mm and 266.70mm to be achieved with the Revolution Drill and Core Drill respectively. In addition, the cartridge assemblies on both drills can easily be replaced if they become worn or damaged without the need to invest in a complete new tool holder.
Rod Crawford, AMEC Europe's Managing Director, explained: "Since we launched these two new ranges earlier in the year the level of interest has been exceptional. Now, with the extension of the range, we are able to apply the rapid production benefits to an even greater range of drilling applications to deliver excellent productivity and low cost per hole."
