ALLIED MAXCUT'S GEN2-TA™ GIVES A NEW EDGE TO PRODUCTIVITY
September 2006

The patented GEN2-TA™ replaceable insert drilling system from AMEC, uses innovative geometry and advanced coatings to give a 20% increase in productivity as well as extending tool life on ferrous and non-ferrous materials and improving hole accuracy and finish.

Designed to be fully compatible to the existing Original T-A® drill insert systems holders, GEN2 T-A®, insert geometry, substrates and coatings have been completely re-engineered to deliver significant performance and productivity improvements when drilling holes of diameters from 0.375" to 4.50", imperial and 9.50mm to 114.00mm metric.

Three grades of high speed steel and two grades of carbide are used for the insert substrates and are finished with AMEC's new AM200 PVD coating to ensure cutting performance, wear and temperature resistance is maintained across a range of materials

The totally new insert geometry uses a new patented notch point design, which improves centring, hole straightness and stability as well as reducing thrust during cutting. The Gen2-TA insert also incorporates new patented curved cutting edges, helical margins and flute design to give improved chip formation and drill stability, by making the contact non-linear, whilst decreasing exit chatter and extending tool life.

To maintain quality consistency and accuracy, the GEN2 T-A® range are all CNC ground, giving an improved surface finish and ensures closer tolerance holes

Rod Crawford, Allied Maxcut's Managing Director explained, "Our existing T-A range was very advanced for its time and set the standard, which a number of companies followed with similar products. This next generation GEN2 T-A® range, however, was conceived from the outset to be a significant step forward over Original T-A and provides marked improvements on all critical factors, such as productivity, tool life, wear and power consumption."

He added: "As a result, we virtually started from scratch and developed new geometries and coatings based on the huge experience we have in hole cutting. The only thing that hasn't changed about GEN2 T-A®, is the fact that it can be used with existing T-A holders, which we believed was important to allow interchangeability and upgrades to GEN2 T-A®, without having to purchase completely new dedicated holders."
